Holy and Living God, You formed us from the dust of the earth and breathed into us the breath of life. As we begin this Lenten journey, cleanse what has grown weary within us, heal what is fractured between us, and turn us again toward love. Amen.

Almighty God, you have created us out of the dust of the earth. Grant that these ashes may be to us a sign of our mortality and full dependency on you, so that we may remember that only by your grace and mercy are we given breath of life and meaning of life; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
